Agile Urbanity

Dairy Road Precinct

The Dairy Road Gallery proposal was designed as a link between the existing development and the surrounding wetlands. The design drew upon the area’s semi industrial and rural heritage, using a balance of  heavy and lightweight materials to create the visual contrast stipulated in the client design brief.

The interior space is designed within a lineal program, incorporating a series of intimate rest spaces along the spiral passage way. The natural lighting provided by the sustainable timber louvered facade provides a continuity of lighting from the exterior to the interior gallery spaces; providing a warm, peaceful and inviting environment designed to enhance the visitor’s experience.

The ground plane design provides the user with easy access, adding further emphasis to the design’s connection with the surrounding environment. The experimental design elements required within the design brief are evidenced by the incorporation of series of square and circular geometry, inspired by Le Corbusier’s work on the Golden Ration, with the angular gallery walls within the spiral shell of the building pointing to the inherent juxtaposition within the nature of the design.
